Gujjia ( Pastry filled with Coconut,sugar, grated chocolate, Dry Fruits & Nuts)

In India, Gujia is traditionally made for the holidays like Diwali and Holi and is a must have treat …Gujias are fried pastries filled with coconut or khoya and dry fruits. My mum also used to prepare this delicious Gujias on the special occasions…& I Just love Gujjias…. We are not very fond of Khoya, so I made these with coconut & sugar.I have done little bit changes in the stuffing by adding grated chocolates also ( I  had used Daily milk chocolate sfor the stuffing)….


. I am going to share way of making Gujiya in simple way.
So here it is…….
Ingredients:
For the dough:
3-4 cups  of Maida
Ghee for deep frying
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1-2 Tablespoons of powdered sugar
Water

(Mix all the above ingredients , Add water a little at a time and knead to form a smooth dough. Cover the dough  in a moist cloth & Keep for ½ an hour)
For the Filling:
3 ¼  cup fresh grated coconut
½ cup Grated chocolates
3 tablespoons each cashew nuts- raisins, chopped finely
1/4 cup almonds, cut into very thin slivers
3/4 cup sugar (Use more or less according to your your taste)
1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
A Pinch of ginger powder
1 tablespoon Ghee
Ghee/ Oil For deep Frying
How to make Gujjias:
Heat 1 tablespoon of ghee in a pan. Add the cashews, raisins & the almonds and fry them for a few seconds. Add grated coconut, sugar, cardamom powder, raisins and ginger powder. Stir fry the coconut on a very low flame till it is a pale brownish colour.switch off the flame. Now add grated chocolates. Keep aside.
Divide the dough into 12  equal size balls. Roll these balls out into circles about 5 diameter. Put 1-2 tsp of filling in the center of each circle and fold over into a half moon.
Dip your finger tip in water & seal the edges . Repeat the filling process for all the circles. Keep these aside.
Heat Ghee/ oil  in a Kadai and deep fry the gujias, till they turns to light brown in color. Keep them on Paper Towels. Serve hot the yummy gujjias…


You can Store the Gujias in airtight containers after they are cooled.
