Haldi/ turmeric powder- 1tsp
Green chilli- 2 nos chopped
Whole garam masala ( black pepper 5-6, cinnamon stick , cardamom, 2-3 bay leaves, cloves-3-4)
Lemon juice- 1tsp (instead of lemon juice u can add 1-2 tsp of curd)
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Method:
Cut & clean the chicken pieces. Marinate the chicken with salt, haldi , chiili powder & lemon juice for 1 hour.
Take a pan. Heat oil. Add the whole garam masala to oil. stir & then add the chopped onions & chopped green chillies.
Sauté till they becomes light brown in colour. Then add the ginger & garlic & mix well. sauté for 1-2 min. Then add tomatoes & fry for some time. Then add haldi, salt, red chilli powder & coriander cumin powder. Sauté & cook them till tomatoes are soft & oil separates from masala.
Then add the marinated chicken pieces & mix well. sauté for 15-20 mins.
Chicken will release water..Cover a lid let it cook in it’s own juice. If required sprinkle some water with your hands so that the masala will not stick in the bottom.
Cook for another 15-20 min. Then add the roughly cut onions as the name is chicken dopyaja soooo u have to add lotttss of onions in the chicken. Add ½ cup of water. Cover the chicken with a lid. Keep stirring occasionally & after 10-15 min check if the chicken is well cooked & the gravy should be dry. . If you want it to be softer, cook them for some more time. You can add some garam masala if you want. Add some chopped coriander leaves & Give it a final stir. Your chicken dopyaja is ready to serve now. Serve hot with rice/ pullav/ phulka/ paratha..:)
