Super tasty. Immediately I asked her the recipe then she told me the traditional way to prepare this..Then I thought mmmmmm Urad dal as a batter for deep frying ??? sounds interesting . so just took a chance to make this, In the urad dal batter I added some rice flour to make it more crispy & it came out superbbbbb....very easy, delicious & a must try recipe....In this festive season , this is a great sweet recipe to make....so friends here is the recipe...
Ingredients
Urad dal/ black gram- ½ cup
2 tblsp rice flour
Channa dal / Bengal gram -1 cup
Sugar-1cup ( u can take jaggery also)
Cardamom powder- 1 tsp
Grated coconut- 2tblsp
Salt
Oil for deep frying
Method:
Wash & soak the urad dal for 3-4 hours. Drain water & make a fine paste adding a very little water (The batter should be like dosa batter)Add ltl bit salt & rice flour in to it & mix well. cover it & leave for 2-3 hours.
Next step: Pressure cook the channa dal with 2 cups of water till soft. Once dal is cooked remove the lid & drain the cooked dal. Let it dry. Then mash it in a masher. Take a heavy bottom pan. Add 1 cup sugar & 1 cup water to it. Make a sugar syrup. When the syrup is thick add the mashed dal in to it. Stir continuously till it becomes a thick paste. Then add grated coconut (u can add coconut pieces too) & cardamom powder to it. Mix well. switch off the flame.
Then heat Oil in a kadai for frying. Divide the dal stuffing in to equal size round pingpong size balls. Dip each balls in to the urad dal batter one by one & deep fry them till they turns to golden brown colour. place them on tissue paper to drain excess oil.. njoy hot or cold....
