Ridge gourd curry in mustard paste (Jahni Besara)


1/2 kg ridge gourd
1 onion chopped
1 tomato chopped
2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp poppy seeds 
5 garlic cloves
½ ” inch ginger
1 green chilly
½ tsp red chili powder
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp oil


peel the outer skin of ridge-gourd. Cut them into small pieces.
Grind mustard, cumin seeds , poppy seeds ,ginger , hari mirch and garlic cloves with a little water & make a smooth paste.

 Heat 1-2 tsp oil in a kadai. Add ridge gourd pieces and stir for 4-5 min. till it becomes soft & light brown colour. Take out the pieces from kadai.
Add 1-2 tsp oil in a kadai again. Add chopped onion .saute till it becomes golden brown. Add red chilly powder & haldi.Add tomatoes.Then add the mustard masala paste and salt.
Stir well. Cover the kadai. When the will start boiling &  about ¾th of the water evaporates switch off the flame & add chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with roti or rice.
