Macha tarkari (Rohu Fish curry) orissa style


Rohu Fish – 1 kg
Potatoes – 2 medium size (cut lengthwise)
Onion- 2 big size chopped
Tomatoes -1 medium sliced
Ginger – 1”long
Garlic 10 cloves
Coriander-Cumin seeds- 1tsp each (soaked)
Red chilis- 2
½ tsp red chilly powder
Cumin  -Coriander powder- 1 tsp each
 Turmeric- 2 teaspoon
Salt as per taste
Mustard Oil- 3-4tblsp
2 bay leafs
Suagar- ½ tsp
Garam  masala- 1 tsp
Chopped coriander leaves- 1tblsp
Method;
Wash fish properly & drain all the water. Marinate fish with 1 tsp turmeric and salt for 10-15 min.
Take a pan. Add 2tblsp mustard oil. Fry the fish pieces till golden brown. Keep aside.  
Grind coriander, Cumin seeds, ginger, Garlic, red chillis, and make a fine paste.
Heat 1 tablespoon oil in a pan and lightly fry the potatoes for 5 mins. Keep aside.
Heat 1tblsp oil in the same pan and add ½ tsp sugar to the oil. when the sugar turns to golden brown colour in oil, splutter cumin seeds, bay leafs, then add chopped onions, cook till golden brown. add ½ tsp haldi & red chilli powder.
Add the previously done masala paste and stir well for 1-2 min. Add tomatoes and cook till masala is well done. Add potatoes.
Mix well, add 2 cups of water, stir well and let it boil & cover the lid & cook  in medium flame for 5 mins . Add the fish pieces. Cook for another 5 mins. Sprinkle garam masala. Stir well. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with steamed Rice.

thank u so much for sharing the information...i would like to add my experience . when u stay out of ur home state and don't know how to cook ur homey foods ...god damn..dying to eat those foods. now i hope i won't be loosing any odiya foods from now.
