Illishi macha tarkari (hilsa fish curry with mustard paste in Orissa style)

Enjoy the taste of hilsa fish curry, a popular dish in orissa. It is very very easy to prepare,so frds without much ado lets start the recipe...



Ingredients:

Illishi (Hilsa/ Elish) fish- 1 kg

Potatoes- 2 medium cut lengthwise
Mustard - 2 tsp
Cumin seeds- 1 tSp
Garlic-5 cloves
2 whole Red chillies
Chilli powder - 1 tsp
pancha phutan- ½ tsp
chopped onion-2
tomato-2 sliced
Dried mango cubes-2 ( ambula) (you acn add lemon juice also if ambula is not available)
 haldi- 2 tsp
mustard oil- 2-3 tblsp
salt as per taste
Chopped coriander leaves- 1tblsp

Make a paste of mustard,  jeera, garlic cloves & red chillies.
Wash the fish pieces properly.Drain all the water. Add 1 tsp haldi & salt to the fish & marinate for 5 -10 min.
Heat mustard oil in a kadai. Fry the fish pieces. Keep aside.
In the same kadai, add 2 teaspoon oil and crackle paanch puran. Add chopped onion, sauté till they turns to golden brown colour. Put the potatoes and fry for some time. Add the sliced tomatoes &  Cook for 3-5 mins.
Then add the mustard paste and stir for 15 seconds. Add turmeric and chilli powder.mix well.
 Add 2 cups water, cover the lid & bring it to a boil. When water starts boiling, add the fried fish pieces & ambula. Cook for another 5 mins . switch off the flame & garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
