Pesarattu Curry





Basically it is a Andhra recipe..One day my friend Deepthi  called me to her room as she was making this curry (her husband’s fav curry) she wanted to show me the recipe...:)..Not only i hav learned that recipe also I tasted that..It was superb..yummm....& mouth watering I just liked it & then  I decided to make this @ my home & made this for the 1st time a few weeks ago and I was shocked at how easy it was....My husband also liked it very much..:)& we both became a fan of this curry now.....goes well with rice & chapatti/ roti...:)Thanks to deepthi for sharing this recipe with me..:)

Ingredients
For moong dal dosa:
2 cups green moong dal
2 big size onions finely chopped
4 green chillies chopped
1 tsp ginger grated
1 tsp cumin seeds
salt to taste
oil to make dosa

For seasoning
Oil- 1tblsp
2 big onion chopped
Salt to taste
Cumin seeds- ½ tsp
Hing a pinch
Red chillies -3-4
Chopped cilantro- a handful
Curry leaves- 8-10
Water
For gravy masala
3-4 garlic cloves
1 tsp poppy seeds/ posto
1 tblsp roasted sesame seeds
5-6 cashews or pumpkin seeds (optional)
½ of a small size star anise (optional)
2 green cardamom,1” long cinna mon
2-3 red chillies

cumin & coriander powder 1tsp
Grind all & make a smooth paste

Method:
Soak green moong in water for  5-6 hours.Strain the soaked moong dal and grind it into smooth paste with little water.Add  salt to the  batter.

 Take a bowl & mix chopped onion, green chillies, cumin seeds, ginger , chopped cilantro along with salt.mix well.
Add this mixture to the Moong dal batter.
Heat a flat tava on medium high heat, apply a tsp of oil with back of a spoon.
When tava gets hot, pour a ladle full of moong dal batter on the tava and spread it to make it like a uttappam. Cook covered on low flame till bottom turns golden brown.
Turn on other side and cook till done.Cool to room temperature and  cut the moong dal dosa into big pieces as shown in the pic.
 
Heat oil in a pan on medium high heat, add cumin seeds, red chilles & hing. When they splutter add curry leaves. Add chopped onion. Sauté for 1-2 min till they becomes soft. Add the blended masala & stir it.
 Add salt & mix well. Cook for 5-10 min till oil appears in the masala. Add water as required & let it boil. Add pesarattu pieces to it, mix it well and allow it to cook on a low flame for 2 mins. Add  chopped coriander leaves,mix it well and leave it until the water is completely evaporated.
Serve hot with rice/ roti.
